Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) currently has responsibility for the management of over 10,000 route kilometres of standard gauge interstate track in South Australia, Victoria, Western Australia, Queensland and New South Wales. ARTC also manages the Hunter Valley coal rail network.
In 2009, ARTC formed the Upper Hunter Valley Alliance (UHVA) to plan and construct a number of rail projects in the Hunter Valley. The alliance is comprised of ARTC, Leighton Contractors, Parsons Brinckerhoff, Coffey Geotechnics, KMH Environmental and AANCSA.
Trains operating on the Hunter Valley rail network play an important role in transporting passengers and freight. To ensure future network capacity, and maximise the benefits of other projects currently in planning, ARTC has begun a program of work to reduce current network constraints.
